ROGER WILSON SAYS:
‘When I was told I had had a heart attack in March 2010, it was somewhat of a shock to the system. I underwent a procedure of repair and then started to reflect on me and my body. Before that I had just accepted that as I was now over 60 I didn’t have as much energy as before and had put the ‘getting puffed’ as a natural slowing down.
Two stents which gave me an improved supply of oxygen showed me that I had been wrong. As part of my recovery I attended a Cardiac Rehab Phase 3 programme run by the hospital funded by our local doctors. It was very beneficial, not just educational but also helped me regain a level of fitness – unfortunately the classes only lasted for six weeks.
The good thing is that then I met Salli, who now runs the Happy Hearts Exercise Class here in Damerham which is also a Cardiac Phase IV Prescription. Salli runs many classes in the local area and they all welcome anyone who wishes to start a regime of exercise in a controlled progressive and fully supervised way – you do not have to come from a cardiac/pulmonary history. You are however required to request a referral from your GP.
I would like to recommend Salli’s class to anyone, no matter what age or level of fitness. They are really fun and enjoyable and you exercise to uplifting music and see many smiles and much laughter.’

90 Years Old & Still Peddling Strong!
Cath Carey of Redlynch celebrated her 90th Birthday on the 6th September with Salli and her Happy Hearts Fitness Class in Salisbury. Cath has been keeping healthy by weekly working-out with Salli and fellow keep-fit friends, for over a year.
“The equipment I love using is the Rower and Stationary Bike – I especially feel at home on the Bike because I was a keen cyclist in my younger days.”
The favourite part of the class, says Salli, is when Cath and her ‘work-out buddy’ Gladys, do the Shuttle Walk, hand in hand, repeatedly across the room.
Salli – “Cath’s mobility and balance have improved so much in the past year and her confidence now really shines through. She is an inspiration to every class member and if she happens to take the very occasional day off, we all miss her dreadfully. She shows that age is no barrier to improving your health and well-being, by gently exercising with a group of fun- fuelled class mates. Healthy Hearts exists to help not just post-op heart patients on their road to recovery, but to also encourage any age group – Happy Hearts has members from 17 to 90 years old – to get and stay fit, using a carefully monitored format in a relaxing enjoyable environment.”
Happy Hearts has classes inSalisbury,Wilton, Fordingbridge, Shaftesbury, Durrington, Amesbury & Warminster, so come along and you will soon realize that having a Happy Heart gives you a Happy Life.
